Lioness meet

The Western Pocono Lioness Club will meet at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 28, at the American Legion in Gilbert. www.sonsofitaly.net.Noon mealFor those who are hungry and used to going to a soup kitchen, if that respective soup kitchen is closed on the Columbus Day holiday, the East Stroudsburg United Methodist Church Soup kitchen will be open on Oct. 11, Columbus Day.Doors open at 10:30 a.m. and the meal is served at noon.Spook-tacular partyThe Children's Activity Committee of the American Legion Post 927, Gilbert, will host its annual "Spook-tacular Children's Halloween Party at 1 p.m. on Oct. 30. There will be "fun-food" and excitement for all.Visitors are invited to ride along the haunted field with "Jack Skellington" on his "Night before Christmas" sleigh.Sign-up is required. The event is free for children 1-12, who will receive a goodie bag. Chief organizer Cathy Pagano says they served approximately 150 persons.Garden of GivingTammy Graeber of McMichaels and the Garden of Giving had a fundraiser at Sorrenti's Cherry Valley Winery in Saylorsburg. She already knew Sunday morning that it would be a financial success. The group raises fresh vegetables and donates them to area food pantries and local soup kitchens.
