Tamaqua man facing charges

A Tamaqua man, who led police on a chase, is facing several charges.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said about 5:29 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 16, Earl Hartranft, 32, was observed entering parked vehicles in the parking lot of the Lowe's Home Improvement Center in Norwegian Township. Upon the arrival of troopers Hartranft was observed fleeing the scene in a 1996 Cutlas Oldsmobile.Hartranft then led police on a chase that covered about two and a half miles before he stopped along Mill Creek Road in the township. During the investigation it was determined that Hartranft had numerous items in his possession that were taken in the vehicle entries at Lowe's.Also, Hartranft was found to be under the influence of alcohol.Troopers said Hartranft will be charged with fleeing or attempting to elude police, recklessly endangering another person, receiving stolen property and theft from a motor vehicle. He failed field sobriety tests and the DUI charge is pending, troopers added.
