Lehighton man pleads to simple assault count

A Lehighton man, scheduled to have a non-jury trial on Thrusday in Carbon County court on assault counts, instead entered a guilty plea after reaching a plea bargain.

George Andrew, 55, pleaded to simple assault for an incident on May 15, 2009, in front of the Lehighon police station on Constitution Ave.Borough police charged Andrew with deliberately ramming his vehicle into a vehicle operated by Wilmer Everetts.According to police the incident stems from an ongoing family dispute between Andrew and Everetts' wife over an estate. The incident actually began at the Walmart store in Mahoning Township and ended in Lehighton. Everetts was reported at the station to file a complaint against Andrew.Senior Judge Richard W. Webb accepted the plea and placed Andrew on probation for a year.Webb also ordered Andrew to make restitution of $2,813.78, attend anger management counseling, have no contact with Everett or his family, pay court costs and a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation.In the plea agreement a charge of aggravated assault was dropped.
