Nesquehoning police have recovered thousands of dollars worth of tools stolen in a string of burglaries in the borough and surrounding communities. Now, they need the public's help in getting the tools back to their rightful owners.
Police are asking that anyone who is missing tools or is approached to buy used tools contact them at (570) 669-9111.They have not yet released the names of the people they believe may be involved in the burglary ring."We're looking at multiple suspects," said Police Chief Sean Smith.The tools, which Nesquehoning Officer Tim Wuttke said include a snowblower attachment, weed whackers, power tools, air tools, hammers, saws and two $2,000 winches, were recovered on Tuesday from Unit 9 of the Nesquehoning self-storage facility on Route 54, Smith said.Police from Nesquehoning, Jim Thorpe, Lansford and Rush Township "have been working together on a string of burglaries. We were working on this for months like dogs. We developed some information on Sept. 13 that we acted upon, and we went out and seized this," Smith said."The main break in the case was Jim Thorpe police received a tip and acted upon it and recovered two tools, and it just snowballed from there, from the night shift into the day shift," Smith said.Jim Thorpe Officer Eric Schrantz and Nesquehoning Officer Carl Breiner, "working together on a traffic stop," provided the major break in the investigation, he said."There were multiple departments" at the storage facility on Tuesday, Smith said.He and Wuttke were there, along with Nesquehoning Officer Tom Kurtz, Schrantz, Lansford Chief John Turcmanovich and Rush Township Corporal Duane Frederick.
