Tamaqua man facing charges

A Tamaqua man was arrested Tuesday evening after being observed in a visibly intoxicated state on Spruce Street.

Sgt. Richard Weaver was on patrol at 8:20 p.m. when he observed Anthony Louis Kehl, 40, of 112 1/2 Orwigsburg St., sitting on a stone wall at the Tamaqua Family Practice, Spruce and Railroad streets. Kehl was swaying back and forth on the wall, then slid onto the sidewalk. Weaver highlighted Kehl in the police cruiser's headlights but Kehl didn't seem to notice.Kehl exhibited signs of being under the influence of either alcohol or drugs and was taken into custody. A search of his person turned up a silver metal cylinder containing 32 peach color, oval tablets. The pills were tentatively identified as Alprazolam, a Schedule IV drug needing a prescription. Kehl admitted he did not have a prescription for the pills.Kehl was cited for public drunkenness and later released into the custody of his father. Additional charges are pending lab test results on the pills.
