End of summer results in winners at Palmerton Area Library

The Palmerton Area Library's Friends of the Library held a story writing contest for members of the Teen Group.

The winners and their prizes (donated by the Friends) are: First place-Stephanie Augustine, $35; Second place-Kaitlyn Shapiro, $25; Third place-Gabrielle Augustine, $15.Honorable Mentions are: Zach Storm; Brianne Bruer; Elizabeth Anthony.The library held a Let's Go Fishing Contest throughout June, July, August to see how many books the children could read. They put their name and the name of the book they read on a colored paper fish. Each fish was attached to each other, creating a string that was looped around the library's second floor railing.There is a large school of 6,776 fish "swimming" at the library which indicates that Pre-school-kindergarten patrons read 1,935 books, grades 1-3 read 1,696, grades 4-6 read1,320, grades 7-12 read 718 and adults read 1,107 books. Diane Danielson, the library director, said 418 patrons participated.The winners in the Let's Go Fishing Contest are: Preschool-kindergarten 1st-Elizabeth Sterner, 2nd-Lily Dickson, 3rd-Addy Ring; Grades 1-3 1st-Daniel Howard, 2nd-D'Anthony Montanari, 3rd-Raegan Nemeth; Grades 4-6 1st-Madison Anthony, 2nd-Makenzie Sabalino, 3rd-Gunnar Sanchez; Grades 7-12 1st-Jenna Sterner, 2nd-Michael Blichar, 3rd-Sarah Moyer; Adult 1st-Anne Howard, 2nd-Peggy Tirado, 3rd-Tammy Fristick.First prize winners won prizes that the library received through coupons they received from businesses. Second and third place winners won gift certificates to the library's book store.
