The scope and strength of a new no-smoking policy continued to be a subject for debate among Lehighton school directors. Several of the directors felt the tough policy proposed by administration making all buildings and grounds off-limits to smokers may be too strong to enforce. But supporters of the total ban feel the non-smoker, who must endure "second hand smoke" should be considered. School nurse Eileen Sharbaugh spoke in favor of the smoking ban.
