Pottsville man gets state prison term for string of burglaries
A Pottsville man, who pleaded guilty to 21 burglaries, including six in Tamaqua, was sentenced by President Judge William E. Baldwin in Schuylkill County court to serve 64 months and 15 days in a state correctional instituiton and make restitutions totaling $39, 995.55.
Michael Lash, 25, began his burglary spree in June 2007 and continued to April before he was arrested after investigations by Tamaqua and Pottsville police. He has to make restitution to the folllowing:Tiki Bar, Tamaqua, which he burglarized twice, $1,700 plus $4,228.22 to Sam Lazarchick for damaging juke box.The Italian Club, Tamaqua, also hit twice, $6,332.21.The Citizens Fire Company, removed a safe, $14,227.48 to Gladfelter Claims Management Inc.Restitution ordered to establishments burglarized in Pottsville were:West End Fire Company, $5,974.71; Habilitation Inc. building, $100; Kline Brotheres Auto Body Shop, $150; Club 18, $450; S&J Gift Shop Outlet, $650; United Presbyterian Church's office, $3,220; Ken's Tire Shop, $549.51; Towne Drug Store, $345; Schuylkill Medical Center's dental office,$150; Vince's Auto Reair Shop, $675; American Hose Company fire house, $1,000 from entertainment machines; Little Joe's Garage, $401.95; Peacock Bar, $260; The Office Bar, $5,266; and Adelphia Sea Food Store, $700. Restitution of $377 also was ordered to be paid to Bethlehem Regional Lab.Illegal DealingsMichael Robert Liskiewicz, Minersville, pleaded guilty to making illegal investments and forgery and was sentenced by Baldwin to serve 27 to 54 months in a state correctional institution with credit for serving 160 days in the county prison. He also must pay $100 to Criminal Justice Enhancement Account and make restitution of $4,000 to Debra and Michael Barnhart, Minersville, and $1,840.30 to M&T Bank.Motorists citedTwo men who entered guilty pleas to driving under the influence (DUI) were placed in the Intermediate Punishment Program (IPP) by Judge John E. Domalakes.Joshua A. Richard, 30, Schuylkill Haven, began a 10 day sentence in the county prison Sept. 3 at 9 p.m. and when released to serve five months and 20 days on probation, including 40 days under house arrest with electronic monitoring and pay a $12 per day fee, followed by three months regular probation, pay a fine of $750, pay $100 to Substance Abuse Education fund, $100 to Catastrophe fund, a $50 monthly fee for each month on probation, $60 to Schuylkill Medical Center, complete outpatient counseling, driver's license suspended 12 months and when restored must install an ignition interlock on his vehicle for 12 months. On a charge of careless driving was fined $25 and costs. Richard was cited by Corporal Jeffrey Futchko, Pine Grove Police, last January.Joshua Shayne Dechert, 23, Annville, was placed in the IPP and must serve six months on probation including 15 days under house arrest, pay a fine of $1,000, pay $100 to Substance Abuse Education fund, $50 to Catastrophe fund, $60 to Schuylkill Medical Center, attend alcohol highway safe driving school and receive outpatient counseling. His license is suspended 12 months.On two counts of possession of a controlled substance he was placed on probation 12 months to run concurrent with the DUI sentence. Dechert was cited by Sargent John Boyer, Tower City Polic;e, lasst December 1.Points gunTimothy Ryan Zimmernan, Schuylkill Haven, pleaded guilty to recklessly endangering another person and was placed on probation for 18 months by Domalakes. He was ordered to pay $50 to the Criminal Justice Enhancement Account and a $50 monthly probation fee. He was cited by Patrolman William Horn, Schuylkill Haven police, who claimed Zimmerman pointed a handgun at William Flail.
