The Pride in Chestnuthill group will meet at 7 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 9, at the Chestnuthill Township municipal building.PV boardThe Pleasant Valley School District Board of Education will meet at 8 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 9, in the district offices in Brodheadsville.Stopping hungerEffort United Methodist Church's hunger ministry had 37 families stop in this past Saturday for food baskets. That totaled 130 people.Now the shelves need restocking. Needed are honey, tuna fish, jelly, cake mixes, pancake mix, syrup, macaroni & cheese, pasta, soup, corn, oatmeal, tea bags, ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, apple sauce, pineapple and rice.Anyone wishing to make a donation may drop off their items at the church during church office hours.Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network's Community Service Center, located near the Chestnuthill Diner on Greenview Drive in the former Methodist church in McIlhaney, open Tuesday mornings for food distribution for families of the West End, is also seeing an increase in clients needing help.Volunteers there will be glad to accept donations of foodstuffs as well.To contact the PVEN CSC call (570) 992-3631.To contact the Effort UMC food pantry call the church at (570) 629-1890.Health fairA free Senior Fair, sponsored by state Rep. The event is subject to the weather.Open houseThe Chestnuthill Elementary School will hold an open house from 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 15.Sunday School beginsVarious churches in Chestnuthill Township are starting their Sunday School classes again.Zion Lutheran in Brodheadsville will start Sunday, Sept. 12.Effort UMC Sunday School will begin Sunday, Sept. 19, during the 11 a.m. service.Our Lady Queen of Peace, Gilbert, will begin religious classes on Sept. 11, 12, 13 and 14. Member families are asked to stop by the church office to register.Operation Christmas ChildMany area churches are involved in the Operation Christmas Child program. This year, the Effort United Methodist Church is partnering with another local church, Discovery Fellowship.This year the church will focus on 2- to 4-year-olds and 10- to 14-year-olds. A roster of items being collected is available through the church. Items will be received through the end of October when all will be boxed in shoe boxes and sent on to Samaritan's Purse for shipment around the world and in parts of the USA.
