A motorcyclist was injured in a crash at the Hometown intersection in Rush Township, in which the other driver attempted to flee the scene and is facing charges, including driving under the influence (DUI). Township police said the accident occurred about 7:01 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 4.

According to police Alan Tyson, 45, of New Ringgold, was northbound on SR309 driving a 1986 Honda Shadow bike. Police said at this time Kalvin P. Wright, 18, of Hazleton, was attempting to make a left turn from 309 to go east on SR54 (Lafayette Ave.), when his vehicle and the bike collided head-on.After impact Wright attempted to leave the scene going east on 54 but due to the condition of his vehicle he was unable to travel very far. He was found by police a quarter-mile from the scene.Tyson was flown by PennStar helicopter to St. Luke's Hospital, Fountain Hill. No condition report was available for Tyson from the hospital.With Wright in the car was Dennis Santiago Jr., 25, of Lansford. Wright was taken to St. Luke's Hospital, Coaldale, for a blood test for suspicion of DUI of a controlled substance. He refused to submit to the test, police added. Charges against Wright are pending completion of the investigation, police said.Police were assisted at the scene by volunteers from the Hometown Fire Company and fire police along with state police from Frackville.
