The West Penn Township Lions Club will hold a chicken barbecue at West Penn Community Park on Saturday, Sept. 11 from noon to 5 p.m.
The date is significant, as the fundraiser will benefit the township's volunteer fire and ambulance companies on the anniversary of the 9-11 terrorist attacks on New York City and Washington, D.C., a date that emphasizes the importance of the work that emergency workers perform in their communities."We feel this is a good time to donate to the emergency responders in West Penn," said Ed Dudley, a longtime club member and officer. All money raised by the Lions Club during this event will be split between the West Penn Fire Company No. 1 and Penn Mahoning Ambulance, both of which plan to be involved with the event.Penn Mahoning Ambulance will do free blood pressure screenings at the park during the barbecue, and the fire company will have equipment and apparatus on display. Children can have their photographs taken on the firetruck. For tickets, contacts any Lions Club member or call Dudley at (570) 386-2917.
