Timeworn steps outside S.S. Palmer Elementary will soon be replaced.

Palmerton Area School District will accept bids for the steps until 2 p.m. Sept. 20, at which point the bids will be opened.The bids will be for restoration to the exterior stair cases at S.S. Palmer Elementary located by Third Street.The project includes selective demolition of portions of the concrete stairs, installation of handrails and a cast in place concrete step overlay.A prebid meeting will be held at 10 a.m. Sept. 8 at the project site.Last month, the board approved Barry Isset to manage the steps project at a cost of $2,175, and supervision as needed at a cost of $80 an hour.In June, the board approved Godshall Kane Architects to produce a set of drawings and specifications to fix the steps at a cost not to exceed $1,000.Superintendent Carol Boyce previously said the district had $10,000 set aside in the Mccall grant to fix the steps.
