Fire prevention presentation at Locust Lake

Wild land firefighters from Fire District 18 volunteered their time recently to provide a fire prevention presentation and Smokey Bear to visitors in Locust Lake State Park amphitheater. During the presentation, firefighters went over various ways they control forest fires ranging from small to large, discussing the varying aspects of logic and preparedness that go into fighting these types of fires. They also talked about fire break lines, firefighting tools, methods, and fire preventions. Various parts of the presentation also required audience participation, such as a scenario in which the audience acted as a fire would, listening to instructions by Forest Fire Warden Dave Duffy. Pictured receiving literature and other items from Smokey Bear is Joseph Svetz, 4, from Orefield. Volunteer wild land firefighters Tom Nelson, left, and warden Dave Duffy from Fire District 18 go over fire prevention and firefighting techniques.
