Meters required for all wells

Shortly after the Nesquehoning Council went into session Wednesday evening, they broke for an executive session. The session lasted 42 minutes and was for personnel reasons as stated by council president, Mark Stromelo.

John McArdle, Emergency Management Manager, reported that he plans to have the weed killer tested when applied in Nesquehoning again by the railroad. He was told it is a generic form of Round Up and wants to see if it could contaminate the water system.Tom Merman asked David Hawk, who serves as the borough's Water Authority chairman, about putting meters on all of the wells in town that don't have meters on them. Hawk answered that it is up to council as to whether they want to enforce the ordinance. There is an ordinance that all wells have meters attached. Later in the meeting it was discussed that each homeowner who does not have a meter must get one and have it installed. They will have 30 days from time of accepting the meter to have it installed.Louie Paul was introduced as the new Borough Supervisor. He will begin his duties on Monday, August 30.McArdle also announced that the First Baptist Church will host the Community Unity Service but it will be held at the Meed's United Methodist Church on Sept. 11 at 7 p.m.Council apporved two mobile radios. One for John McArdle and the other for Rob Valusek.Police Officer Tim Wuttke will be sent to a finger printing class in Fountain Hill at a cost of $50 to the borough. Officer Brian White will be sent to a Drug Interaction Class and several officers will attend a class on Certification for DUI Check Points on Sept. 23 at the KME Training Center.Approval was given to block off the first block of West Railroad Street for the 75th anniversary of St. John Baptist A.R. Orthodox Church on Sept.19.Council president Stromelo said that there will be no repairs until early next year to the street project.The borough crew was thanked by council woman Rose Walck for the repairs made at the recreation center.It is planned that on Sept. 15 the new camera will be installed on the police car.Under the Sanitation Committee it was mentioned that if the recycling goes down, the borough would take over the project. They would look at different options for the collection.Ginny Tatusko and John Cooper will remain on the Nesquehoning Recreation Committee. There are two positions available and anyone interested may contact the borough office. The deadline has been extended until Sept. 10.David Hawk said there will be an increase in some of the salaries and that the crossing guards would be increased to $8.25 an hour. The janitor salary will be $500 a month and the EMA manager will get $75 a month.Council wants to set up a meeting with the Municipal Emergency Management which will be earmarked for next week.
