Riverwalck litigation discussed in executive session
Parryville Council members went into executive session Tuesday night to discuss the issue of Riverwalck Restaurant's permit applications. Additions to the building have been under discussion at borough council meetings for nearly a year.
As soon as the public was allowed to re-enter the meeting room, Att. Michael Greek, solicitor for the borough, said the executive session was held to discuss litigation respective to an equity correspondence which will be filed in Carbon County Court in regard to Mark Stemler. Stemler is the owner of the Riverwalck property. The building of the restaurant, which includes the number of seats and corresponding parking, whether the restaurant has building permits, whether it has been built according to building codes, and whether it has enough parking for the number of seats in the restaurant, are among the past issues that have been under discussion about the restaurant. Other issues include the burning of a bon fire, loud noise late at night and the location of outdoor buildings are secondary issues that are usually included in discussions.During the interim, the restaurant has stayed open and appears to be a highly popular and busy establishment, serving an assorted mixture of pub food and Tex-Mex dishes.Greek declined to discuss any further information about the pending litigation. In other business, former council member Phyllis Smith questioned why contact information as to who to call in emergencies is not posted outside the borough building as had been a past practice.Council president Mike Grant noted that it was an oversight and would be done."That is a quick fix," remarked Grant.Council also discussed completing the paving at the playground.Grant urged council to put the project out on bid so that it would be done correctly and in a timely manner.Council also tabled discussing a burning ordinance.Grant asked members to forward any suggestions on to him so they could be incorporated into the ordinance.
