Retail theft arrests

Pocono Mountain Regional police reported on two retail theft arrests made by officers over the past weekend.

On Friday, Aug. 20, about 12:08 p.m. officers were called to the Walmart store in Mt. Pocono for a report of an employee theft. Store security advised police that Alyssa Apfel, 18, of Long Pond, who is an employee, was observed stealing a magazine and also taking food and drink items.A review of surveillance tapes showed Apfel, on 23 different occasions since July, stealing a total of $101.77 worth of items, police said.She was issued a citation and then released.On Saturday, Aug. 21, about 2:33 p.m. officers were dispatched to Bill's Shur Save Market, located along SR940, in Mt. Pocono. Police said store security alleged that Madeline Melody Palladino, 22, of Tobyhanna, was observed removing items from the store without paying for them. During the arrest process police found a marijuana pipe on Palladino's person. In addition to the theft charge, she was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.
