Crashes probed by PSP at Lehighton

State police at Lehighton reported on several crashes investigated by troopers in recent days.

A one vehicle crash was reported about 3:45 p.m. on Aug. 13 along Mount Eaton Road, on Ross Township, Monroe County. Troopers said Robert Steinmetz, 40, of Saylorsburg, was driving a 2000 Dodge Interpid, when he lost control of the vehicle going onto the berm and striking a embankment. Troopers did not indicate if Steinmetz was injured. Troopers added that alcohol was suspected as a factor in the crash.On Aug. 14 about 2:50 p.m. a crash occurred along SR248 in Bowmanstown. Troopers said David J. Stevens, 38, of Northampton, was driving a motorcycle when the front tire blew out causing him to lose control. Stevens fell off the bike with it coming to rest along the shoulder. Stevens sustained a minor injury in the crash but did not require immediate medical attention.On Aug. 21 about 1:55 a.m. Erik J. Benjamin, 20, of East Patchogue, N.Y., was driving a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee northbound on SR209 in Polk Township, Monroe County, when he failed to stay in his lane of travel. The vehicle crossed into the southbound lane and onto the berm where it struck a utility pole. After impact with the pole the Jeep continued 125-feet before coming to rest.Benjamin was not injured. He was cited for traveling on roadways laned for traffic.On Sunday, Aug. 22, about 3:44 p.m. a crash occurred along Windy Hill Road in Polk Township. Troopers said Hien D. Nguyen, 20, of Bethlehem, was driving a 2006 Nissan Sentra westbound at a high rate of speed and attempting to negotiate a left curve in the road. Nguyen lost control and the vehicle began to fistail in a counter-clockwise rotation crossing into the eastbound lane and going onto the berm. The car then continued along the berm striking a tree.After striking the tree the car continued out of control and struck a fence and an embankment where it overturned and came to rest facing north.Nguyen was not injured. He was cited for driving a vehicle at a (un) safe speed.Troopers investigated a crash about 1:35 a.m. on Sunday along Weir Lake Road, in Ross Township, Monroe County. Troopers said James Z. Comeau, 18, of Saylorsburg, was driving a 1992 Pontiac Sunbird northbound and traveling too fast for a right curve. The car went onto the berm and struck a street sign and a large boulder.Comeau was not injured. He was cited for driving a vehicle at a (un) safe speed.On Monday, Aug. 23, about 8:38 p.m. troopers responded to a crash along Forest Inn Road at Fireline Road, in Lower Towamensing Township, Carbon County. Troopers said Elizabeth Malarkey, 19, of Palmerton, was stopped at a stop sign in a Dodge Avenger. Malarkey then entered the intersection and collided with a Toyota Corolla driven southbound on Forest Inn Road by Erick R. Sagastume, 25, of Danielsville. No one was reported injured.Also on Monday, about 5:58 p.m. troopers said Christopher J. Kaspern, 17, of Palmerton, was driving a Volkswagen Jetta southbound on Walnut Drive, in Lower Towamensing Township, when he failed to negotiate a left curve. The car went onto the berm and struck an embankment. Kaspern was not injured.He was cited for driving on roadways laned for traffic.
