A former Carbon County man was sentenced to a long state prison term on Monday for a series of burglaries.

Edward Cesanek, 29, of Hunlock Creek, Luzerne County, and formerly of Nesquehoning, was sentenced by Senior Judge Richard W. Webb to serve a total of 30 to 60 months in a state prison followed by three years of state probation.Webb also rejected a request from defense Atty. Matthew Rapa to run the sentence concurrent with a state prison term Cesanek is currently serving for criminal acts in other counties, including Schuylkill. Webb said the Carbon term would begin when Cesanek completes his present prison sentence.Cesanek was named part of a multiple-county burglary and drug ring. He was one of 12 arrested as part of the ring.Rapa told Webb that his client stole to feed a drug habit that began when he was 12 years old. He began with marijuana and ended up a heroin addict, Rapa said.Cesanek admitted entering the property of Greg and Jodi-Lee Duschak in Parryville in February 2009 and that of Stephen and Cecelia Hydro, in Jim Thorpe, in December 2009. In the break-ins Cesanek took cash and guns.Jodi-Lee Duschak told Webb that Cesanek took items from her home that are irreplaceable. She said some of the items were given to her by her mother.In addition to the jail term Webb ordered Cesanek to supply a DNA sample, get both drug and alcohol and mental health evaluations, zero tolerance on D&A use, have not contact with any of the victims and make total restitution of $39,332.80.Cesanek was sentenced on two counts of burglary and one of altering of forging registration. It was noted his wife, Kira Ann Cesanek, took part in some of the criminal acts and is facing or has already been sentenced.
