Slatington to rebid storm sewer project

Slatington has decided to rebid a storm sewer project one month after estimates were initially received.

Bids for the Fifth Street storm sewer and 2010 Street Improvements projects will now be accepted by the borough until 10 p.m. Aug. 17.However, all prior bids opened on July 12 remain open, valid and under consideration at this time.Borough Manager Stephen Salvesen said the project will "probably not be any pricier than the initial bid.""We took out a couple of items; the first time out we threw in an alternate for lining a storm sewer, and that came in all over the place," Salvesen said. "We decided to go back out to bid so that we could make sure what we had was what we really needed."The project is being funded with federal Community Development Block Grant Recovery funds, Salvesen said.It involves the installation of storm sewer pipe along Fifth Street between West Church Street and West Washington Avenue, and along West Church Street from a point about halfway between Kern Alley and Field Alley east to East Church Street. The storm sewer line will tie into the existing storm sewer management system.A prebid conference will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday at borough hall, 125 South Walnut Street.
