During the month of July, there were only three births at the Coaldale State General Hospital. That brings the total for the year to 37, a dozen less than the 49 babies born through the first seven months of last year. In view of the declining number of births at the hospital, the joint conference committee recommended the "temporary suspension" of obstetrical services at the hospital "until such time as adequate conditions can be made to restore the service with an automatic review of the situation every six months."
