Miller-Keystone bloodmobile scheduled for Palmerton

Miller-Keystone Blood Center will conduct a bloodmobile at the First United Church of Christ's air-conditioned Fellowship Hall (next to Palmerton Borough Hall) on Wednesday, Aug. 11, from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. This visit is sponsored by the DeSousa Oil Company. Off-street parking will be available at Penn Northeast (both sides of the building) and at the former Golden Key parking lot, by permission of the owners.

This is a difficult time of year for blood collections, so all eligible donors are urged to attend. This includes students on summer vacation. Those eligible are encouraged to donate blood components (platelets, plasma, and/or red cells) on the Trima machines. This process gives credit for 2 or 3 units, and takes an hour to an hour-and-a-half. New donors are also always needed. Minimum requirements are: 17 years of age, 110 pounds, no tattoos or body piercings within the last 12 months. Previous cancer patients who have been cancer-free for one year may now be eligible to donate. For specific medical information, call Miller, toll-free, at 1-800-223-6667 during office hours. First-time donors should bring photo ID, such as a driver's license. Previous Miller donors should bring their Miller ID cards. For more information, or to make an appointment, call George Ashman at 610-826-2097.In addition to donors, the local organization is in need of volunteers to work as donor aides or canteen aides on the days of the bloodmobiles (once every two months). There is no age or experience requirements for these positions. For more information, please call Perma Snyder at 610-826-3511, or Ashman.
