If a new Carbon County Prison is constructed in the Packerton Yards section of Mahoning Township as proposed, it now appears likely the sewage generated at the prison will be treated at Lehighton Sewage Treatment Plant. During a meeting of the Lehighton Sewer Authority, Carbon County Administrator Mortimer L. Smedley advised the authority he contacted the Pa. Department of Environmental Resources and the DER will go along with the proposal.
