Where can you go to ice skate in the summer, see the latest movies, and jump into a pool of cool water on a sweltering hot morning?

These activities and more are available at the Tamaqua YMCA Summer Day Camp 2010. The camp is having good success in its second year.Located in the nearby Jamesway Plaza at 1201 East Broad St. in Tamaqua, it's an easy getaway for the children who will feel like they are on a mini vacation when they attend.The center offers a Youth Gymnasium where the sports enthusiast can enjoy a friendly game of basketball, indoor soccer, or volleyball. There is also an Adventure Center where a playland brightens up the room and includes a firehouse, schoolhouse, nursery and a Texas Lunch eatery for imaginations to run wild. A climbing area for little ones to explore is provided nearby. Gaming areas, ping pong and pool tables supply other forms of entertainment.Director Nick Zigmant says the camp will be open until Aug 27th. Operating hours are Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. until 6 p.m. Children ages 5 years old through 6th grade (2009/10 school year) can come and participate in fun events, like bowling, hiking, roller skating, crafts and field trips. Camp counselors are present to supervise the children at the center and on the field trips.Each week the camp has activities that coincide with a theme. Past themes include "Out of this World" with a trip to the Davinci Center and "Hollywood" which took the kids on a field trip to see the recent release "The Last Airbender".What does it take to become a member of the Tamaqua YMCA Summer Day Camp? After paying a registration fee members can then pay for a daily or weekly visit to the camp and the fun begins.Not only are the children getting the chance to exercise their bodies and their minds, but they are learning valuable lessons in honesty, respect and responsibility as well. And to top it off they are making new friends. The camp is a place that gives the kids opportunities that they might not get to be part of otherwise.
