A Northampton County driver apparently fell asleep at the wheel of his vehicle and crashed. The accident occurred about 7:37 p.m. on Thursday, July 22, along Forest Inn Road in Lower Towamensing Township, Carbon County.

State police at Lehighton said Joshua N. Melendez, 20, of Walnutport, was driving a 1999 Toyota Solora and negotiating a left curve when he fell asleep. The vehicle left the road and ran up an embankment along the berm.Melendez suffered minor injuries and was taken to the Palmerton hospital by Palmerton ambulance for treatment.Troopers cited Melendez for careless driving.
