Updike competing at IAAF Jr. World Track Meet

Allison Updike of Tamaqua Area High School is scheduled to compete with the USA Junior World Track and Field Team at this week's 13th International Association of Athletics Foundations (IAAF) World Junior Championships, which will be held at Moncton (New Brunswick), Canada through July 25.

Updike, who will be a senior at Tamaqua Area in the fall, will compete in the women's javelin, which had qualifying rounds scheduled this morning. The finals are scheduled for Wednesday evening.Updike qualified for Team USA by winning the javelin competition at the U.S. Junior National Championships at Des Moines, Iowa last month. Her winning throw of 167-2 tied the Pa. record, which she now shares with Fawn Miller of Lakeview High School.In May, Updike won the PIAA Class AA State championship in the javelin with a gold medal throw of 161-2. She is also a two-time District 11 and Schuylkill League champ and record holder in the event.
