Tamaqua's Kathy Rimm to sing in her home town

It's been a long time since Kathy Rimm performed in her home town of Tamaqua.

For the last 20 years, she's been a working musician throughout Pennsylvania and beyond. On Thursday, July 8, she'll be performing in Tamaqua for the first time in over a decade, at the Summer Concert Series at the historic train station from 6-8 p.m."I've lived in Tamaqua for most of my life, but I worked with many bands that didn't play in the area", Rimm said. "I would do solo shows in town, but then I got pretty busy with band work, so I stopped performing solo. Now I'm finding that I miss the freedom of playing solo, and so I figured it's time to say, 'Hey Tamaqua, remember me?'"Kathy is currently the lead vocalist and a guitarist for "Category 5," a classic rock/dance band based in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. She's been performing since 1990, and has been in many area bands, including the "Rocket 88's", "Groove Train", "Boo-Boo Kitty" and the acoustic duo "Rhyme & Reason".Rimm says she doesn't like to be stuck in one genre, so performing solo is a way for her to execute her abilities and styles of music not featured in her band. She believes in performing crowd-pleasing material while focusing on her own tastes, as well as her original songs. "I tailor the show to fit the crowd", she says. "I can play everything from Pink to Billie Holiday, something for everyone".
