Open House

The Carbon Model Railroad Society will hold a Christmas in July Open House at 529 Ore St. in Bowmanstown July 10-11, and July 17-18, from 1-5 p.m. The main HO scale display is in various stages of completion and is an excellent learning tool. The clubs portable HO and N Scale displays will also be in operation on the second floor. Admission is free. The building is air-conditioned. The concert begins at 7 p.m. In case of rain, it will be held in Borough Hall, 443 Delaware Ave. Bring a lawn chair. This week's concert is sponsored by HCDF.Community mealA free community meal will be held from 5-6:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 13 at St. John's United Church of Christ, 891 Columbia Ave., Palmerton.Historical SocietyThe Palmerton Area Historical Society will meet on Monday, July 12 at the parking lot across from Hager's Furniture before 6:30 p.m., to carpool to the Carbon Model Railroad's headquarters in Bowmanstown. There, members and guests will see the scale model layouts, and have an opportunity to discuss model railroading with club members. This trip replaces the customary meeting at the library.Heritage CenterThe current exhibit in the Feature Room of the Heritage Center, 410 Delaware Ave., is a look back at the first 20 years of the Palmerton Area Historical Society, and five years of the Heritage Center. Special events are planned throughout the year. The center is open Wednesday through Saturday each week (except holidays) at different hours. Phone (610) 824-6954 for a recording of times each day.
