Lansford police caution residents to keep their doors locked and to be careful around strangers in the wake of a burglary of an East Patterson Street home last Friday.

Police received a report at 4:39 p.m. from the resident, who told them that a man in a newer model silver sedan approached the rear of his home about a vehicle for sale. As they talked, the stranger - who wore gloves - talked on his cell phone in a foreign language. At the end of the conversation, the man gave the resident a "high-five" as if indicating he was interested in buying the vehicle.The resident returned to his house to find that rooms had been rifled through, items were out of place and coins and change had been stolen.The resident described the stranger as tall, with black hair and dark skin. He was wearing a brown shirt.Patrolman Chris Ondrus said police had received a report of a similar incident in Schuylkill County.Ondrus asked residents to immediately call police if anything seems suspicious. He advised not allowing strangers into the house and to demand identification from anyone offering items or services for sale.
