Polk Township Supervisors are planning on paving High Hill Road, but first a discussion as per invite from Chestnuthill Township as to a possible changed township boundary.

Supervisor Chairman Brian Ahner indicated that he thought it was no problem, but the anticipation was he'd go to the meeting with his Chestnuthill counterpart. In the meantime, several roads will be tarred and chipped and the "rough estimate" for proposed paving is mid-July.A discussion in regard to needed work on the Lower Middle Creek bridge had the supervisors agreeing with the township engineer Russ Kresge to hire the entity Hanover to do the technical engineering.The fire company is allowed to do a coin toss fund-raiser on Route 209 as that is a state highway and the supervisors have no control over that. There is still concern for the volunteers' safety, however.Fire Chief Terry Jacoby stated the company anticipates doing such events during race week ends.He reported that the volunteers responded to 13 calls for the past month and have responded to 82 calls year-to-date.Statistics from the Codes & Zoning Officer included two new housing starts for the month and only eight for the year so far.He also reported that at this time there were no cases for the Zoning Hearing Board.Supervisor Nancy May reported for the Aquashicola Pohopoco Watershed group that numbers of volunteers have dwindled and the group may not be active for the time being. One of the awards for their work hangs on the township's meeting room wall now.The estimated census figure for Polk Township is currently 7,772 residents. The official count will come later.Upcoming at the next Board of Supervisors meeting are possible actions on: non-litter ordinance, a resolution posting 25-mile-per-hours on development roads, and further consideration on a yard waste disposal area and snow removal guidelines.It was announced that township offices would be closed Monday, July 5, due to it being a holiday for all employees because of July 4 being on a Sunday.
