West End Rotary Club's 3rd Annual 5K Bear Run and Fun Walk a 'wet' success

Dedicated runners and walkers didn't let a "little" rain stop them from participating in the West End Rotary Club's 3rd Annual 5K Bear Run and Fun Walk on Sunday, May 23.

There were 119 stalwart runners and 40 walkers who completed the 3.1 mile course at Pleasant Valley High School stadium and surrounding area, in Brodheadsville.Prizes were awarded to the top three finishers in eight age groups for both male and female runners. Awards were also given to the top three walkers in the event.Matt Frable of Saylorsburg, won Overall First Place with a time of 17 minutes and 52 seconds. This is his third consecutive year winning the 5K Bear Run.Dana McAllister, 13, won the Overall First Place Female with a time of 20:22. Proceeds will be donated to American Cancer Society's West End Relay For Life and other Rotary projects. The Relay For Life is being held Saturday, June 5-Sunday, June 6 at the PV stadium in Brodheadsville."Even though it rained, we're very pleased with the turnout and the money we raised for Relay. We received a lot of good comments on it. I couldn't have done it without the help, support and dedication of the members of the Rotary," said Jim Mannello, chairman of the event. He's hoping next year's run and walk will be bigger and better.And hopefully, no rain in sight.
