A sssssspecial guest visited the Western Pocono Community Library. It was a python snake. He brought along some of his sssssscaly friends, thanks to his handler, Billy Doyle, of K & L Creepy Creatures.

They were all part of a special kick-off to the summer reading program being held at the WPCL for kids to learn more about reptiles like snakes, lizards, tortoises and frogs.Billy and his reptilian friends were a huge success with an enthralled audience of over 150 kids.The summer reading program, "Make a Splash" will be held for infants through second grade, Tuesdays, 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., Wednesdays, 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. and Thursdays, 1 p.m. and 6: 30 p.m.Third to sixth grade students will meet Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m., Wednesdays 1 p.m. and Thursdays, 6:30 p.m. There is an adult program, time to be announced.It was also announced that every time one of the children reads a book, they can sign their name on a slip of paper that will be added to a paper chain. When the chain reaches the 5,000 book mark, the library will adopt a sea lion in that child's name.The project is an incentive for children to read.Please call the library at 570-992-7934 for more information.
