Community Carnival held at Sam Miller Field in JT

The Jim Thorpe Community Athletic Association held a three day Community Carnival at the Sam Miller Field in the Heights section of Jim Thorpe.

According to Association member Kyle Sheckler, while this was the third year in a row for this event, this year's carnival had more to offer visitors than ever before. He noted that "we're finally having some great weather and thanks to that, we've got a lot of people here and everybody's having a great time."He went on to say "a lot of organizations have set up food stands and this is the first year we have local churches involved such as St. Johns Lutheran Church in the Heights and Ebenezer Evangelical Congregational Church also in the Heights."In addition, the Jim Thorpe Booster Club, the Jim Thorpe Band Boosters, the Jim Thorpe Community Athletic Association, and other local vendors were also present at the field. This reflected the Association's desire to get the whole community involved with this year's event, and according to Sheckler, its working out great. There were between 60 and 70 area sponsors who, in addition to their time and help, donated money towards the bands, prizes for the raffle tickets, and prizes for the Chinese auction.Providing the musical entertainment in the evenings were, on Friday night, Nightwind; on Saturday night, Becky and the Beast; and on Sunday, Shades of Grey. All proceeds from the carnival benefit Sam Miller Field and the community.
