Golden agers

The annual installation dinner of the Panther Valley Golden Agers was held May 24 at St. Joseph Hall in Summit Hill. Sixty members were present. The previous officers Ronnie Bazik, president; Shirley Pavlick, vice president; Tootsie Orsulak, secretary; and Mary Ciganek, treasurer; were reinstalled for the coming year. Bernice Strepko conducted the Installation.Fifteen members of the chorus provided patriotic songs and hymns.The next meeting will be held June 14 at 1 p.m. at St. Joseph Hall in Summit Hill. At this meeting members celebrating birthdays in April, May and June will be recognized.Members involved in the Senior Games are asked to bring in winning medals to display.Hospitality Group for June is Dee Neifert and Fran HagerJune 14 is Flag Day. Remember to wear our nation's colors.Summit HillOLOA sign-upsOur Lady of the Angels Academy, Lansford, is accepting registrations for the 2010-11 school year. Parents can register their sons or daughters at the school between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m., or other arrangements will be made by calling (570) 645-7170 or 645-7101.Children registering for kindergarten must be 5 years of age by Oct. 15. First graders must be 6 years of age by the same date.Parents are reminded when registering their child the following information will be required: birth certificate, baptismal certificate and immunization records.A registration fee will also be required.School officials note financial aid is available to qualifying families.LansfordBloodmobile plannedSt. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, Lansford, will sponsor a bloodmobile visit on behalf of the Miller-Keystone Blood Center on Monday, June 14, from noon to 6:30 p.m. in the church hall.The center serves as the only blood provider to Easton Hospital, Gnaden Huetten Memorial Hospital, Hazleton General Hospital, Lehigh Valley Health Network, Palmerton Hospital and the St. Luke's Hospital and Health Network.To arrange a donor time, contact John Karnish, (570) 645-3994.Infant baptizedElla Larie Vega-Santiago, infant daughter of Gabrielle Marie Santiago and Eliazar Vega-Santiago, was baptized recently in St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, Lansford.Lansford AliveLansford Alive held election of officers and three directors at a recent open meeting held at Rosie's Restaurant.Re-elected to their positions were Mark Sverchek, president; Martha Rex, treasurer; and Rose Mary Cannon, secretary. Elected to the vice president seat was Bob Silver, who replaced Steve Brunda, who did not seek re-election.Re-elected as directors were the Rev. John Keiter and David Benevy. Newly elected was Chris Ondrus. All director seats are three-year terms.The next regular meeting of Lansford Alive will be Thursday, June 10, at 6:30 p.m. at Rosie's Restaurant. The group aims to foster interest and development of the business district and to help improve its physical appearance. Anyone interested in helping with this endeavor is urged to attend these meetings.Pastor's retreatThe Rev. Kenneth Medve, pastor of St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, Lansford, will be attending the "Priest, Deacon, Seminarian Retreat" at St. Vincent College, Latrobe, from June 14-18.
