Two arrested for drinking violation

Mark Dietrich Jr., 19, 360 W. White St., and Christopher Field, 18, 214 E. Ludlow St., both of Summit Hill, face charges from an incident which took place on May 23 on the 600 block of E. Bertsch St.

Both are charged with the following: escape, possession, purchase, or consumption of alcoholic beverages, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness.Dietrich was arraigned before District Judge Bruce Appleton, of Palmerton, and jailed under $5,000 straight bail.According to an affidavit of probable cause filed by Lansford Officer Brian A. Zulic, he was dispatched to 607 E. Bertsch St. for a suspicious vehicle. While en route he received a second dispatch that informed him that two males had gotten out of the vehicle and were urinating in the street.Upon arrival Zulic saw Officer Talancha from Coaldale, who had been in the area on a recent call, parked behind the men's' vehicle, his lights activated.Zulic heard Talancha yell "they took off on foot" as he ran after one of the men. A man standing on his front porch told Zulic where one of the men had run, north, toward Patterson Street. After a brief chase, he arrested the man. He immediately noticed the smell of alcohol and saw that the man's eyes were red and glassy.Zulic identified the man as Christopher Field, 19.He escorted Fields to his cruiser and saw that Talancha had nabbed the other man, Mark Dietrich Jr., and had placed him in the cruiser. Talancha told Zulic that when he pulled up behind the vehicle Fields had gotten out from the driver's side and Dietrich from the passenger side. The officers took the men back to the Lansford police station and noted that Dietrich also smelled of alcohol and that his eyes were also red and glassy. Both Dietrich and Fields said they fled because they didn't want to be arrested. Fields faces the same charges as Dietrich, but was not yet arraigned, police said.
