The entire student body of the L.B. Morris Elementary School in Jim Thorpe, who were able to, participated at the JTAHS track in a fundraising walk to aid local firefighters.
All proceeds from the fundraiser, which was called "Walk in Their Boots", will benefit both the Jim Thorpe Fire Department and Penn Forest #1 Fire Company.The event was organized by L.B. Morris Health and Physical Educator Claire Burns and I.U. Unit Aid Kelly Scott.According to Claire Burns, about 900 students in Kindergarten through 8th grade and an additional 200 parents and teachers walked in three different groups throughout the day.The groups which consisted of grades K - 2nd; 3rd - 5th, and 6th - 8th spent about 2 hours each walking the track.In addition to the walk, the two fire companies each brought vehicles and equipment for the students to check out.Jim Thorpe brought a ladder truck, an engine, and a rescue truck while Penn Forest #1 brought a water rescue truck, and a mini pumper.
