Fiber Optic lines being installed in Tamaqua

Workers have been spending time on Railroad Street in Tamaqua the last few days installing fiber optics lines that follow the railroad tracks through Tamaqua. The large project is part of a plan to install fiber optic cables from Cleveland to New Jersey. The depth of the long conduit is about 36 inches, with 18 inches of clearance below culvert pipes and 36 inches below major structures such as bridge foundations. One official stated "Once it is installed, it can provide high speed internet access." Since fiber optics use light to transport data, fiber optics are currently the fastest commercial means to transport data, such as internet and television, over long distances.
