Four Vietnam War veterans from Summit Hill, Palmerton, Jim Thorpe, and Weatherly were selected to receive special recognition for service to the nation and their community. They are Perry Shelton of Summit Hill, Michael Pondish of Jim Thorpe, Barry W. Scherer of Palmerton, and Raymond P. Desrosiers of Weatherly. The four were chosed from 12 nominations by a selection committee. Assisting the selection committee was Earl L. Henning, director of county veterans' affairs.
