Man caught in act stealing at PPL site

One suspect was caught while the other managed to escape after being observed inside a fenced in facility belonging to PPL Electric Utilities in Schuylkill County.

State police at Frackville said the incident occurred at 220 Morea Rd., in West Mahanoy Township, about 2-3:20 a.m. on Friday, May 21.According to troopers Raymond Oscar Davis, 39, of Easton, and a male accomplice cut a large and small hole in different areas of the fence at the PPL site and entered the facility. Once inside they gathered a large amount of tools and copper cable and placed the items near the larger of the two holes. While still inside the facility and gathering additional valuable items, Davis and his accomplice were confronted by troopers. Davis was taken into custody but the other man fled.Troopers said damages to the facility were estimated at $500 and the items the two had gathered to take were valued at $5,500.Davis was charged with theft by unlawful taking or dispositon, a felony three; criminal conspiracy, felony three; criminal mischief, possessing instruments of crime and criminal trespass. He was arraigned before District Judge Bernadette Nahas, of Frackville, and was unable to the $25,000 straight cash bail set and was committed to the county prison in Pottsville.The accomplice was described as wearing a light colored hooded sweatshirt.
