Campbell promoted by ABC

BURBANK, CA. - Anne Sweeney, co-chairman, Disney Media Networks and president, Disney-ABC Television Group, has announced that respected television station executive Rebecca Campbell has been appointed to the position of President, ABC Owned Stations Group.

In this role Ms. Campbell will report to Ms. Sweeney, and will have chief management responsibility for the 10 ABC owned television stations and for the Group's ABC National Television Sales rep firm.Campbell is a Tamaqua native and is the daughter of Marilyn Funk Kennedy and the late Reverend Clarence R. Funk.In commenting on the announcement, Sweeney stated, "Rebecca's a strong leader with a proven track record of success, more than 25 years of experience in local broadcasting, and the respect of station leaders, employees, and her colleagues across the Company. We will continue to make sure ABC viewers can get the local content they need, wherever they go and whenever they want it."Most recently, Campbell served as the President and General Manager of WABC-TV in New York, the ABC Television Stations Group's flagship station in the nation's largest television market. Prior to her appointment at WABC-TV in October of 2007, Campbell was the President and General Manager of WPVI-TV, the ABC owned television station in Philadelphia. Both television stations are the highest-rated, from sign-on to sign-off, in their respective markets.As WABC-TV President and General Manager, Campbell had overall management responsibility for WABC-TV/Channel 7 and all of its ancillary businesses, including two additional digital TV channels; 7online.com, the station's Internet site; ABC7's" TAXI TV", and "Live with Regis and Kelly," the long-running syndicated hit series which is produced by the station.Campbell had been President and General Manager of WPVI-TV since 2003. She joined the Philadelphia station in 1997 as Program Director and later served as Vice President of Programming.Earlier in her career, Campbell held several programming and production positions of increasing responsibility at WFMZ-TV in Allentown, PA, and WGAL-TV in Lancaster, PA... Ms. Campbell began her broadcasting career at KDKA-TV in Pittsburgh as a college student working on a local teen magazine show.Campbell is a board member of the New York State Broadcasters Association and the Chairperson of their summer conference. She is also a board member of the Broadway Association, Inc., and is the Chairperson of the Metropolitan Television Alliance (MTVA). Ms. Campbell serves on the Advisory Board for the League of Women Voters of the City of New York Education Fund. She was the chair of the 2009 League of Women Voter's Awards Luncheon.While in Philadelphia, Campbell received various honors for her organizational leadership and active community service, including the "2007 Women of Distinction Award" from the Philadelphia Business Journal.Campbell is a magna cum laude graduate of Bloomsburg University, PA with a dual major in journalism and political science. She is a 1979 graduate of Tamaqua Area High School.
