Tamaqua driver to be cited

A Tamaqua driver will be cited following a one vehicle crash that occurred about 5:10 a.m .on Saturday, May 15, at 62 River Road, in Walker Township, Schuylkill County.

State police at Frackville said Mark Scheitrum, 23, was driving a 1999 Chrysler 300M northbound when he lost control while looking at his cell phone. The vehicle went onto the east shoulder and struck a PPL utility pole and then two mailboxes at the above stated property.Power was interrupted in the area for about five hours, troopers said. Damages were disabling to the vehicle. Troopers said charges will be filed against Scheitrum.Troopers also investigated a crash about 3:14 p.m. on Friday, May 14, along SR924 at the entrance to the Eagle Rock resort in East Union Township. Troopers said Kyle Schmoltze, 18, of Ringtown, was attempting to make a left hand turn into the resort and stopped with Jesus Soriano-Sahchez, 47, of Hazleton, behind him. Joan Vasquez, 32, also of Hazleton, came up behind the two and was unable to stop. The front of her 2001 Dodge Neon struck the rear of Sanchez's 1996 Toyota Camry pushing it into the rear of Schmoltze's 2004 Chevrolet Impala.Vasquez sustained moderate injuries, troopers said, while the other two drivers were not hurt. Damages were heavy to the front of the Neon, front and rear to the Camry and rear end to the Impala.
