State VFW and Ladies Auxiliary to hold conventions in Gettysburg

The State of Pennsylvania Veterans of Foreign Wars and its Ladies Auxiliary will hold their annual conventions beginning Wednesday, June 16 through Saturday, June 19 at the Eisenhower Resort and Convention Center, Gettysburg. The conventions will be under the leaderships of Frank G. Mills, Sr., state commander and Bette Jean Biedrzycki, state president.

A joint memorial service will be held Wednesday, June 16 at 7 p.m. in recognition of all PA's past deceased veterans under direction of state VFW Chaplain, Charles Castelluccio.Colette Bishop, of Iowa will represent the national office (Kansas City, Mo.) at the Ladies Auxiliary meetings.Thomas Tradewell, Sr. of Wisconsin, commander-in-chief of the VFW, will represent the national office (Kansas City, Mo.) at the VFW meetings.Thursday, June 17, 8 a.m. is the joint opening session. Awards will be given to: Outstanding Commanders on the post and district levels; Outstanding Community Service to individual VFW members, posts and districts.Three American flags will be presented by the Ladies Auxiliary to three deserving recipients.The Ladies Auxiliary will open it business session at 2 p.m. Gold Star Mothers will be recognizedFrom 6-9 p.m. there will be a joint picnic hosted by state Commander Mills and state President Biedrzycki.Friday, June 18 at 8:30 a.m. there will be more recognition of outstanding work by local auxiliary members, district members, area and state chairmen. Nominations of the new state officers will be held. At 7 p.m. there will be a joint patriotic rally, "Salute to the Veterans."Saturday, June 19 the business session will complete unfinished and new business, including election and installation of the new state officers for the 2010-11 year. At 8 p.m. there will be a reception hosted by the new state commander and state president.
