Schuylkill crashes

State police at Schuylkill Haven reported on crashes investigated by troopers over the past weekend, including one in which the driver is facing a drunk driving charge.

The crash occurred about 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 15, along Dowdentown Road, in Branch Township. Troopers said Bradley R. Graver, 22, of Zerbe, Northumberland County, was southbound in a 2005 Nissan Frontier and traveling too fast while negotiating a left curve. Graver lost control of the vehicle and it traveled across the road and struck a tree on the driver's side. The impact with the tree forced the vehicle to turn clockwise with the left rear striking the tree.The Nissan then traveled across the road and up an embankment where it turned onto the driver side and came to rest in the southbound lane.Troopers said Graver showed signs of intoxication and was placed under arrest for driving under the influence (DUI). He was transported to the Schuylkill Medical Center South, Pottsville, for a blood test. The DUI charge is pending the test results. Graver sustained a minor injury in the accident. He was cited for driving a vehicle at a (un) safe speed.A two vehicle crash occurred about 11:05 a.m. Saturday along the Port Carbon Highway, in East Norwegian Township. Troopers said Michael J. Caruso, 36, of Pottsville, was driving a 2005 Toyota Corolla northbound as was Edna L. Shaffer, 81, of St. Clair, operating a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu. Troopers said the front of the Malibu struck the rear of the Corolla. Shaffer sustained a minor injury in the mishap.Shaffer was cited for driving a vehicle at a (un) safe speed.Also on Saturday, about 3:12 p.m. a crash occurred along SR1004 (Mill Creek Road), in East Norwegian Township. Troopers said Ann E. Morton, 44, of Shenandoah, was driving a 2009 Ford Windstar westbound when a fornt seat passenger - Richard S. Morton, 45, same address, started to get out of the vheicle while it was stopped. The driver inadvertently started to move forward and the passenger fell out onto the ground.Richard Morton was injured and taken to the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, troopers said. The driver and three other passengers, all from Shenandoah, were not injured. Troopers cited Ann Morton for careless driving.A crash was reported about 5:25 p.m. on Friday, May 14, at the intersection of Summer Hill Road and SR183 in Wayne Township. Troopers said a 16-year-old female juvenile from Schuylkill Haven, was stopped for a stop sign on Summer Hill Road while Janet G. Olena, 71, of Forksville, Sullivan County, was southbound on 183 approaching the intersection.Troopers said the juvenile pulled out into the intersection and into the path of Olena. Olena veered to the right but her 2000 Toyota Avalon struck the teen's 2000 Toyota 4-Runner.The juvenile, her passenger, Michael S. Fessler, 46, of Schuylkill Haven, and Olena were all not injured. Troopers cited the juvenile for a stop sign violation.
