"West Side Story" on JTHS stage Friday and Saturday

A long-time goal is occurring for Natalie Kmetz this weekend.

She will be directing the musical "West Side Story.""West Side Story" is being as the Jim Thorpe School District Drama Production at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday in the Jim Thorpe High School auditorium."It has been my dream for 29 years to do 'West Side Story,'" Kmetz said. "I knew this was the year with all the talent we have."Having lead roles as "Jets" are Michael Trainer as Tony, Tomas Lafeta as Riff, and Billy Sushue as Action.The main "Sharks" are Christain Pringle as Bernardo and Matt Sanchez as Chino.Molly McFadden has the role of Maria and Samantha Ceremele plays Anita.Set in the mid-1950s in New York City, the musical explores the rivalry between the Jets and the Sharks, two teenage street gangs of different backgrounds. The members of the Sharks are first-generation Americans from Puerto Rico, while the Jets are a working-class white group who consider themselves the true Americans.Tony, a member of the Jets, falls in love with Maria, the sister of Sharks leader Bernardo.Other Jets members in the production are Gerald Palmieri (A-rab), Josiah Behrens (Baby John), Alexis Young (Anybodys), Brendan Slack (Snowboy), Raheem Green (Big Deal), Elisabeth Seier (Diesel), Victoria Nichols (Velma), Minke Pfeiffer (Graziella), Madison Heffelfinger (Minnie), and Samantha Sparacio (Clarice).Sharks include Brooke Riffert (Consuela), Bridget McFadden (Rosalia), Tylor Slack (Pepe), Rebecca Scheckler (Indio), Courtney Scheckler (Luis), Samantha Rimbey (Margarita), Hailey Hoherchak (Francisca), Rebecca Osbourne (Juano), Arielle Harleman (Estella), Elizabeth Strauss (Teresita), Maxine Gaffney (Carmela), Marc Niccolls (Toro), and Justin Plocinik (Moose).Jacob Tout has the role of Doc.Kellee Jo Kleintop is Lt. Schrank.Justin Jordan plays Officer Krupke.Kelli Reese is Glad Hand.The musical director is Judy Romanisko.Julie Romanisko and Nick Lazor are the choreographers.Among the musical selections are "Something's Coming," "One Hand, One Heart," "The Rumble," and "A Boy Like That."Tickets will be available at the door both evenings.
