The Carbon County Emergency Management Agency will host a University of Pittsburgh Center for Rural Health Practice awareness training on Thursday, May 6, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., at the EMA building, 1264 Emergency Lane, Nesquehoning. Lunch will be provided.

The free event is open to any emergency medical service personnel, law enforcement, fire services, Hazmat members, Red Cross Salvation Army members, VOAD members, public works, school nurses, hospital and health care providers, municipal and other government administrators, school administrators, elected officials, veterinary service staff, dispatchers, other public safety communications staff, and other community-level response partners.What will be covered will help all rural responders know about public health emergencies. Topics include understanding critical public health emergency functions and services; identifying key partners in community-based disease surveillance and early warning systems; understanding the role of local hospitals and laboratories in supporting disease control; communicating basic infection control practices; and knowing where to turn for further information and training.Participants will receive credits for four non-trauma con-ed hours, ACT 48 credits, CNE credits and CHES credits.To register, contact the Carbon County EMA office at (570) 325-3097.
