Speaker of the House Keith McCall, D-Carbon, was joined by state Rep. Sheryl Delozier, R-Cumberland, to announce the winners of the House of Representatives Scholarships for 2010.

The winners of the 2010 scholarships are:• Andrew Tucker, a senior at Panther Valley High School in McCall's legislative district in Carbon County who will be attending Misericordia University;• Joseph Hines, a senior at Mechanicsburg Area High School in Delozier's legislative district in Cumberland County who will be attending Grove City College."It's always a pleasure to see a Carbon County student move on to higher education, but even more so when it's one of our students joining this very exclusive club," McCall said. "We're all proud of Mr. Tucker for being one of only two scholarship recipients in the entire Commonwealth, and I know this money - along with the great Carbon County work ethic - will be a huge help for him as he begins his college career.""I'd like to extend congratulations to Mr. Hines for being selected as a recipient of this prestigious award," Delozier said. On behalf of the citizens of the 88th District I wish him success at Grove City College and in his future endeavors."The annual scholarship can be used for tuition and fees at any Pennsylvania college or university and the approximately $2,500 amount awarded per student is based on the cost of a semester's tuition at a State System of Higher Education college or university. In addition, the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency can award a matching grant that could pay for an entire year's tuition for the scholarship winners depending on which college or university the student attends.The scholarships are awarded by an independent panel from The Foundation for Enhancing Communities, a nonprofit organization serving the capital region. The scholarships are entirely funded by donations from current and former House Members and use no tax dollars.
