Assault incidents

State police at Schuylkill Haven reported investigating two assault incidents occurring in Schuylkill County, both early on Saturday, April 24.

About 12:19 a.m. Melissa Smith, 54, and Harry Dunleavy, 46, no address given for both, left a bar and was driving towards Smith's home along SR125 near SR209, in Porter Township, when the two began to argue. Troopers said Dunleavy began punching Smith in the head and face. Smith exited the car and ran to a nearby home and called police.Dunleavy was arrested for aggravated assault and arraigned before duty District Judge Carol Pankake, of Tremont, and committed to the county prison in lieu of $25,000 percentage bail.At 1:59 a.m. troopers investigated another assault incident. Troopers said at Mollystown and Joliette roads, in Porter Township, Charles Kimel, 19, of Pine Grove, attempted to start a fight with a friend of Johnathan Speer, 21, also of Pine Grove. During the confrontatoin Speer took a tire iron and struck Kimel in the back of the head.Speer and his friend fled the scene. Kimel was taken to the Schuylkill Medical Center in Pottsville, for treatment of injuries.The investigation into the incident is continuing, troopers said.
