70-year member is honored at Methodist Church in S. Hill

Berthamae (McMichael) Konstas was the guest of honor on Sunday, April 25, when the Summit Hill United Methodist Church members gathered for their weekly worship service and a celebratory event held afterwards in the church hall.

Mrs. Konstas became the sixth member of the church to be recognized for having attained 70 years of service, joining members Florence Wehr, Phyllis Dankel, Harry Castle and Jack and Faye Bryant.The honoree was presented a plaque on behalf of the congregation by Jill Zwiesdak, church treasurer, and a certificate of recognition from Jack Bryant, administrative board actring chairperson.The wife of Angelo Konstas, she told her fellow congregation members it was with "honor and praise" that she accepted the awards, thanking her family and friends and offering a few memories of seven decades of membership.Mrs. Konstas said that through all of the events held at the Methodist church through the years, "good times and some tribulations took place, but I always remember being able to laugh about something." She said, "I learned so much through church experiences, but especially that my faith will always continue to lead me through life.The honoree was confirmed on May 24, 1940, by the late Rev. George Hess, and had become an active member of the church throughout her lifetime, having been a Sunday school membrs, starting with the primary class and continuing through 12th grade, as well as participating in the Youth Fellowship and Young Adults of the congregation.She became a member of the junior and senior choir and the Faith Circle, having held various offices throughout the years.Mrs. Konstas is a member of the United Methodist Women, serving as its president for 27 years and as treasurer for five years.She was a member of the Parish Council when the church was affiliated with the Lansford church; has served on the Administrative Board for 27 years; and had been a member of the Vacation Bible School.Joing the congregation in honoring her was the Rev. Burgess Gordon, current pastor of the church.
