Quick response by Mahoning Valley and Lehighton fire companies is being credited with saving one of the buildings at the Mahoning Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, 387 Hemlock Drive in Mahoning Township Thursday afternoon. The fire was reported just after 3 p.m. The Carbon county communication center reported a major fire on the roof of one of the structures of the complex. When first responders arrived on scene they reported heavy smoke showing from the roof. Fire officials learned a crew was working on the roof when the fire broke out. Heavy winds helped fan the fire.
