DUI Taskforce releases statistics

The North Central Pa. Regional Sobriety Checkpoint DUI Taskforce and Expanded DUI/Underage Drinking Enforcement Program has released the following statistics from recent Roving DUI Patrols held in Schuylkill County.

On April 9, a Roving DUI Patrol contacted and detained a total of 39 vehicles. Five motorists were tested for driving under the influence, with two adults and one juvenile arrested. Officers cited one person for underage drinking, six drivers for traffic violations, one for a seat belt violation, made one criminal arrest and issued numerous warnings. The patrol was conducted by four law enforcement officers representing four departments.A roving patrol was also conducted on April 16, involving two officers from two local departments. A total of 14 vehicles were contacted and detained. Two operators were tested for possible DUI, with no arrests. Officers issued two traffic citations and issued 12 warnings.On April 17, a Roving DUI patrol contacted and detained 38 vehicles. Six operators were tested for possible DUI, with two arrests made. The four officers representing three departments also made one criminal arrest, issued 20 traffic citations and 20 warnings.Sobriety checkpoints and Roving DUI patrols will also be conducted through April 25 on state routes 61, 183, 901, 209, 309, 443, 895, 125, 25, 924 and 54.Travelers are reminded to dial 911 if they suspect a drunk driver.To report underage drinking, call 1-888-UNDER21.The sobriety checkpoints and Roving DUI patrols are funded through the state Department of Transportation and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
