A Carbon County drug dealer was sentenced to a county prison term on Tuesday.

Ian Cheign Curtis, 23, of Lansford, was sentenced by Senior Judge Richard W. Webb to serve 10 to 20 months in prison followed by two years of probation.Curtis previously pleaded guilty to one count of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and two counts of possession. He was charged by agents of the state Attorney General's office with selling cocaine and heroin in the Palmerton area to a confidential informant (CI) on at least three separate occasions. The incidents occurred on Feb. 12 and May 16, 2008, and July 17, 2007.Curtis was scheduled to be sentenced on Monday but was remanded to the county prison when he came to the courthouse after using illegal drugs the day before and was "coming down". Webb remanded him for contempt of court.Yesterday Webb rejected giving Curtis any credit for time spent in a rehabilitation program, Teen Cahllenge. Curtis was in the inpatient program for 323 days but after being released he tested positive for drugs two months later.He told Webb he has been a drug abuser for many years. He said, "I made a lot of mistakes. I don't know why I went back to the drugs."Defense Atty. Gregory Mousseau said Curtis has fathered two children and is employed and supporting the children. He said Curtis has had a long struggle with drug addiction and asked Webb to give him credit for some of the time spent in Teen Challenge.However, Assistant District Attorney Jean Engle said the adult probation office was opposed to credit because Curtis didn't complete the program and was a problem while in the program.Webb refused to give him credit noting that even when he faced court he used drugs and had to be jailed overnight.In addition to the jail and probation terms Webb ordered Curtis to get both drug and alcohol and mental health evaluations, zero tolerance imposed on drug and alcohol use, supply and DNA sample and pay the $250 fee, and pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.Webb warned Curtis that if he uses illegal drugs while on parole or probation he is facing a state prison term.The prison term began immediately.
